Nora thank you for your comment. It means a lot and is very insightful! I painted it at a time when I needed to see the light. It got me through many a dark time and is the one original painting I won’t sell.

L/F This is captivating, I felt myself sitting in the bottom right hand side of your painting, sitting in the dark shadow, but seeing the brightness peek around the rocks, like the view belonged to no one but me. A most excellent painting. Good Luck in the Billboard Comp 2022

I really enjoy this piece. There is some quality in it that reminds me of "The Scream" by Edward Munch, and that as we know is a timeless classic. Very powerful piece emotionally.

Martine Murphy replied:

Blake, I am chuffed at your reference to "The Scream". There are times that getting lost in this painting has preserved my sanity! Thank you so much for your kind and perceptive comment :)

When darkness threatens, I would find the light pouring on these stones as a reminder of the gentle protection provided each of us in times of despair. I love this I can see you enjoyed your time in Ireland. : ) Hello from the California desert. F/L

Martine Murphy replied:

Hi Maria, so true. Thank you for your kind comment. I live on the east side of Ireland, Meath but have a soft spot for the Burren area of County Clare. There are days when the rain seems to be a constant feature that I'd trade a day in the California desert area :)

Thanks Kathleen and Arlane. This painting has been a life saver to me. When we were in a dangerous environment in my last home, looking at this painting transported me to a safe place where I could breathe.

Artist's Description

This is an Acrylic painting of the Burren, County Clare, Ireland. The original hangs above my fireplace at home and is not for sale. I find that looking at this scene helps me relax and is therapeutic. Prints of this painting would suit any room that is a sanctuary or restful. The Burren is part of the Wild Atlantic West and is one of the most beautiful and strange landscapes in the country. Flora grows there among the rocks that can be found nowhere else in the country.

Watermarks won't appear on purchased prints.

About Martine Murphy

Martine Murphy

I absorbed the basics of life and painting from my father, James Cassidy. In the late 1970's I spent five years working in a Graphic Design studio in Dublin City. The influence of that discipline can be seen in some of my paintings. I enjoy experimenting with various painting styles and mediums also photography and lately, digital art. I was honored to win a master class when I submitted my painting, The Burren, back in the 1990's with the renowned contemporary Irish artist Robert Ballagh. I have been involved in community art and education particularly with under represented communities. I believe that, like many of the other visual and performance arts, painting and photography transcends race, colour, religion and gender forms of...
