Artist's Description

The tomb of The Jealous Man and Woman can be found in the ruins of a small chapel beside the Cathedral of St. Peter & Paul in Newtown Trim, beside the River Boyne. An Augustine Priory is also situated on the historic site. The tomb holds the remains of Sir Lucas Dillon and his first wife, Lady Jane. They are separated by a ceremonial sword of State. Local folklore explains that Sir Dillon suspected his wife of having an affair. She died in 1581 and Sir Dillon went on to marry again. However, his second wife is buried with her first husband in Lusk, County Dublin. Sir Lucas arranged to be buried next to Lady Jane but separated by the sword, symbolising that they are divided for all eternity.

People leave pins that they have rubbed on a wart between the two effigies and as the pin rusts, the warts are supposed to disappear. I do know of someone who took one of the pins as a joke and ended up with warts!

I have been involved in community art and education particularly with under represented communities. I believe that, like many of the other visual and performance arts, painting and photography transcends race, colour, religion and gender forms of...
